The HELP Campaign
Community Quilt
with Hertfordshire County Council
Hertfordshire County Council reached out to Maker + Mind to create an eye catching textile art installation for their two-year, county-wide fostering recruitment campaign, HELP. Connie worked with HCC to develop the concept into a Community Quilt which gives voice to the lived experiences of children and carers in Hertfordshire's fostering community.
We've run workshops with children and their grownups around the county to produce textile patches with a word describing their favourite aspect of being together. Connie finishes off the hoops and adds them to a 2x3m Quilt featuring the HELP title of the campaign, cheerful colours and brick motif to represent stable foundations.
We've also adapted the workshops to an outdoor setting at market events, inviting the public to use fabric pens on their own patches describing what they think children in the community would benefit from most. The HELP Campaign continues through 2026, so check our socials for upcoming public appearances and follow the link here for more information about fostering in Hertfordshire.

An evening of crafting
Beaded Cards
at a festive friends gathering
Maker + Mind was delighted to bring a workshop to a relaxing evening of Christmas themed crafting and cocktails at a home in Hertford.
Using prepared cards, designed and punched at the Studio, a group of friends used textile scraps, beads and thread to decorate Christmas trees for their loved ones, or for display.
The perfect combination of preparation and creative expression; the result was a beautiful selection of mini artworks, authentic connection and big smiles all round.

A birthday afternoon
Embroidering a Flower Posy
for Mum and her daughters
On a quiet Sunday afternoon, L and her two children joined Connie at the Studio for a beautiful birthday celebration.
Slowing down and making together, with some hand stitching and a thoughtfully tailored theme, was the perfect treat for this special Mum and her girls.
Connie painted a watercolour wildflower posy, taking inspiration from the VIP's birth flower and the plants that grow alongside it in the wild. Each member of the family interpreted the posy in their own unique way, with applique and stitched hoops that could be displayed together or separately.
This peaceful slow stitching family workshop, complete with just one or two chocolate brownies, was such a joy to be part of. Happy Birthday L!
